Hope all is well in there (fingers crossed).
So this coming friday is my next ob appt. I can't believe it's been a month. Time has gone by so slowly. I've been feeling definitely more movement (at least on some days) but I'm completely baffled by where they are (and hopefully that they are both still hanging in there). Sometimes I feel movements way at the bottom of my stomach area and sometimes closer to the top. So I think, okay they must be in two different areas. But then start worrying and wondering if it's just one moving around a lot. Can they move around from one far end of your stomach to another?Quite honestly I can't imagine what's going on in there.
Nervously I've been feeling far better and more energetic. I know this is normal for the 2nd trimester but seriously I went from needing 10 hours of sleep to only 7.5 or 8. Like this morning I only had 7.5 hours but then I needed a nap in the afternoon after a 4 hour marathon at B*'s rus this morning.
What you ask?...how completely positive of you to go ahead and register?
Well trust me, it wasn't entirely my idea. If it were up to me I'd just have mr. sushi nut go shopping with a list while I'm still in the hospital delivering. But no, my SIL has decided to throw me a shower along with my MIL and insisted I register somewhere so she can list it on the invites.
Invites! Holly crap...that's a little bold don't you think? After all I'm only 5+ months...anything could happen. I don't even know if they are both still in there! But she insisted. My favorite was when she asked me if I had thought of a theme yet for my shower. A theme! For the love of god...how could I forget to think of a theme! Oh yeah, it should have been on my list between bleeding out blood clots and having a double amnio. Fabulous. I told her I'll give her a theme alright...my theme is just getting these nuggets out at the end of term healthy and alive! How's that!? She apparently didn't go for it.
Other than this everything else is moving along. Just for organizational sake I think I'll categorize my current pregnancy symptoms in 3 categories: 1) Things that make me worry 2) Things that just seem weird and 3) Things that seem to show positive movement along in pregnancy.
Things that make me worry:
- Just this weekend I started feeling a sudden sharp pain from time to time in my pelvic area. It freaks me out when it happens of course but dr. google says it might be stretching pains, although I'm fearful it might be something like a uti. Or worse...So hopefully it will go away but I'll definitely be mentioning it on friday at my visit. Hopefully it won't get worse before then and make it necessary for me to go in early.
- Inconsistent movement: Why is it that when I eat some things I feel a ton of movement and not others. It's so random. Like at lunch today I had a hamburger and the movement at the top of my stomach was quite active. Now, right after dinner which was a salad, chicken and soup....hardly any movement. What the hell? Do they not like chicken?
- Back pain: lately I've been getting a ton of back pain. Mainly in the center left side. I get super uncomfortable if I sit too long, or stand too long...or sleep to long. I can't seem to find any type of relief. My ob advised me to start sleeping as much as I can on my left side...but then my side gets so sore that I just have to flip over to my right side...but then that doesn't feel very comfortable either.
- People saying that I'm not showing much: I went to the dentist for a teeth cleaning the other day and the dental hygienist in addition to my sister in law's mother both said that I looked smaller than they did at 5 months pregnant with a singleton. I hope this is because of my mary poppins magical jacket (which I still owe you a picture of) but it worries me that I am truly not as big as I'm supposed to be and that the nuggets aren't growing. But when I look at myself without clothes on I feel huge! I'm like the incredible hidden pregnant woman. Also it doesn't seem that obvious to other people at work are really noticing either. Hmmm.
Things that just seem weird:
- Breast itchiness: on some days this is seriously out of control on some days. Yesterday I caught myself scratching like a monkey. So strange. I try and lotion up my stomach and my breast area but it relieves it for a day and then we are back to the same thing the next day.
Things that show movement:
- Still have somewhat really sensitive and painful breasts. So I feel that this is a positive sign.
- Stretch marks...I've started my battle against the stretch marks. I'm sure I won't win but it's nice to be nominated as they say.
- Constipation: this wasn't such a problem in the beginning (which therefore was filed under "things to worry about) but now I'm also part of this group. My best friend is fiber.
- Bigger ankles: I've always been proud of my dainty female looking ankles and wrists. I'm happy to report that my wrists still remain slender but I've noticed my ankles turning quickly into cankles.

I made an emergency trip to the doctor for the sharp pains you are describing. It was my uterus stretching, it does hurt.
I'm glad to hear things are going OK. Oh, and you will continue to get comments about how big or small you are. It is just rude, and every single person is different.
My friend who recently had triplets only gained 6 pounds, because she couldn't eat enough to keep up with the babies. She actually looked less pregnant than she did with her first pregnancy. I would only listen to your doctor, that's why he/she spent years in school.
1. I second the above comment on the sharp pains. I had pains that felt like my first baby was jumping on one foot directly on my cervix (and he might have been.) That baby is now 17 months old.
2. At 5 months, I just looked like I had eaten too many meatballs at the office Christmas party. I didn't show "for real" until about 7 months. Everyone is different. don't let that freak you out.
3. Itchiness and stretch marks: I used The Body Shop's vitamin E body butter (in the pink tub). It's wickedly expensive ($20 per tub) but it realllllly helps with the itchiness, and it smells good too. Plus the vitamin E is supposed to be good for reducing stretch marks, although I think stretch marks are more about heredity. That being said, I used the Vitamin e Body Butter and only got a couple of stretch marks.
4. Cankles are the wave of the future. All the cool kids have them.
I know it seems like I'm brushing off everything you've mentioned, but honestly, every SINGLE thing you mention sounds like what I experienced. Even the size of the belly. No, I don't have twins, but people really fretted that I didn't look pregnant (until now). Trust me, you will. I see many, many pictures of women preggers with twins and they are not big. The pains around the cervix are sharp and take your breath away. I agree with Rachel, your doctor will reassure you on all of these things.
In case you do not have it, here is a link to another blog with twins, and she's about as far along as you..http://joyco.wordpress.com/
There is so much in this post I want to comment on. Where do I start?
1. I have been feeling more energetic, sometimes, too. Last night, I came home from a long horrible day and then baked until after 10. Um, where did that come from?
2. It's good that you are registered and having a shower. As twins arrive early, it is better to have it early. At least, that is what my friends keep telling me. And I understand that it feels pre-mature when you're still getting used to the idea that this might actually work. It's surreal.
3. Sharp pain - totally got to be round ligaments. I had them lying in bed yesterday morning and just about convinced myself they were cramps, and would turn into premature labor.
4. Inconsistent movement. It's either in my ribs or in my pelvis. I don't get it either. And how does the OB 'know' when he's feeling a leg or a head at this point? My OB feels around on my belly to find how they're laying. Why can't I do that?
5. Back pain. Amen, sista! Every night, I try a new combination of pillows and angles lying on both sides. I'm a right side girl myself, but my hips and shoulder cramp up and then I get nauseas on my left. If you find the perfect position, please let me know!
6. People say I look great, too, which is nice, because we will be huge. But I've always told people they look small. And I meant it at the time. But I think that's just something nice that people say to pregnant women to make them feel good. It's like that 'glowing' b.s. Who's buying that?
7. I've been having intermittent consti this second trimester, so much that I went out and bought some Tucks to pre-treat the area and hope to avoid a hemi.
8. Cankles. Check. Not as bad as they 'could' be soon, but I definitely notice sock lines at night, so I know they're swollen.
Thanks for sharing this post, because it was like you were speaking to me.
I made my friends wait until the last possible minute before hosting a baby shower for me. And then my baby arrived the day before the shower.
I hope you feel more and more like celebrating with every passing day.
And - for goodness sake - go treat yourself to a pregnancy massage and a pedicure to help with the aches. :)
Almost all the things you have mentioned happened to me as well and things are fine so far.
I am completely my eighth month and a lot of people don't believe I am that far along but my doctor said every woman's body is different and if everything is measuring fine then there's nothing to worry about
My twins also don't move consistently, so don't worry about it. They are a bit crowded in there and they do have sleep patterns too.
I also gave you a bloggy award. Check out my blog to see it and pass it on!
